Jordan Daily - Thaer Laham, managing director of the Syrian Business Council, said growing engagement between Jordan and Syria reflects a clear political will to elevate ties into a comprehensive strategic partnership, highlighting opportunities for private sector cooperation and economic integration.

Laham said in press remarks, seen by Jordan Daily the latest steps mark a natural evolution of longstanding relations, opening the door for deeper economic complementarity based on shared interests, including leveraging geographic access to the Mediterranean and Red seas and expanding joint investment.

His remarks came as King Abdullah II met a visiting Syrian ministerial delegation last Sunday, stressing the need to advance economic and trade cooperation to serve mutual interests.

Jordan and Syria signed nine memorandums of understanding and an agreement during the second session of the Jordan-Syria Higher Coordination Council, covering sectors including media, social development, labour, health, higher education, tourism, justice and postal services.

Jordan views economic cooperation with Syria as a long-term strategic track extending beyond trade to include joint investment and integrated development projects.

The two countries had earlier agreed to establish and activate the coordination council to boost collaboration in key sectors such as trade, transport, energy and health.

According to official figures, bilateral trade rose to JD334 million over the past year, compared with JD116 million in 2024.
